Il Minimetrò è il caratteristico mezzo di trasporto perugino ecologico e innovativo, che permette di raggiungere il centro storico in pochissimo tempo, senza dover usare la macchina né pagare il parcheggio.
Concepito come soluzione di avanguardia nel campo della mobilità alternativa, il Minimetrò concorre a pieno titolo alla salvaguardia e alla valorizzazione dell’ambiente naturale e urbano, al miglioramento della qualità della vita e del sistema di relazioni, alla riorganizzazione degli spazi, tempi, orari della città.
Nato per rispondere all’esigenza di superare lo schema classico dei trasporti di Perugia, in cui tutti gli assi di collegamento convergono sul Centro Storico, rappresenta un sistema di trasporto pubblico alternativo alla gomma in grado di realizzare una vera e propria rete di collegamenti in città di carattere intermodale.
Come le scale mobili, anche il Minimetrò si presenta come un mezzo che funziona con continuità, con minimi tempi di attesa, e in grado di collegare i vari sistemi in punti strategici della città.

Il tragitto del Minimetrò collega la zona di Pian di Massiano con il Centro Storico, passando per le seguenti stazioni:

Il terminal di valle a Pian di Massiano è dotato di un grande parcheggio libero da 3000 posti dove avviene l’interscambio fra auto, autobus del trasporto pubblico e pullman turistici, oltre che di una piccola zona commerciale.

Il Minimetrò è attivo dal lunedì alla domenica, ha una frequenza media di passaggio di circa 2,5 minuti ed effettua i seguenti orari di esercizio:

Caratteristiche e curiosità
Il sistema MiniMetro è stato realizzato dalla Leitner Ropeways S.p.A. di Vipiteno (BZ). L’impianto è un sistema elettrometrico del tipo people mover: una sorta di funicolare dalle caratteristiche originali e innovative.
La direzione artistica del progetto Minimetrò è stata affidata all’architetto francese ean Nouvel. Egli ha disegnato le stazioni lungo la linea, proponendo soluzioni stilistiche che s’inserissero facilmente ed armonicamente nel contesto ambientale che circonda il percorso del Minimetrò, unendo l’utilizzo degli elementi naturali presenti fuori dalle stazioni con materiali che garantissero la massima trasparenza e visibilità.
I lavori di realizzazione dell’opera sono iniziati nel 2003 e si sono conclusi nel gennaio del 2008, permettendo l’inaugurazione il 29 gennaio dello stesso anno, giorno in cui la città festeggia il santo patrono, San Costanzo.
Essendo un sistema automatizzato, non è previsto personale a bordo. Il tracciato si sviluppa parte su viadotto e parte in galleria (sotto il centro storico) con andamento sia orizzontale che pendente. La frequenza minima è inferiore al minuto, media di 2’30”.
Le 25 vetture, lunghe circa 5 metri e con capienza massima di 20 persone, vengono trainate da una fune alla velocità costante di 25 km/h (circa 7 metri al secondo). Muovendosi a spola fra le stazioni estreme, le vetture effettuano le 5 fermate intermedie circolando su due binari paralleli formati da guide metalliche e sono dotate di ruote gommate sia con asse orizzontale che verticale, rispettivamente portanti e di guida laterale.

The Mimimetrò is an automated system so is not expected board staff. The track runs partly on viaduct and tunnel part (under the old town). 25 cars, long about 5 meters and can accommodate up to 20 people, are pulled by a rope at a constant speed of 25 km/h (about 7 meters per second).
